Etic and Emic are concepts which have come from the field of cultural anthropology. The basic difference between the two is that Emic views come from within, and it is also called the insider’s view. On the other hand, Etic views come from the outside meaning an outsider’s perspective which often open room for understanding of a particular culture or religion across multiple lenses. In most cases and as a general habit we tend to thing from Emic perspectives that is the insider’s viewpoint (Molloy & Hilgers, 2013) If we take for example, the religion Christianity, here also etic and emic perspectives are applicable.
